prescription for pessimism

they say gratitude improves your health.
more specifically, they suggest you write down three things you're grateful for every day.
i've been doing that for a few months now, and i'm sure it's helped.  

but i didn't really start to notice changes until i began to share those blessings with others.

almost one month ago now, my dad asked me to email him nightly reports on the good things that happened during the day.  in these reports, i also try to explain why i'm grateful for the those things.

let me tell you, this has helped me so much.

i have become more grateful, hopeful, realistic, positive, and outward-focused.  
not only am i recognizing the many blessings i'm being given in my life, but reporting them to my parents gives me more of a reason to do it - because i know that they look forward to reading my email together every night.  and the feedback they give me is incredibly encouraging.

if you struggle with pessimism, hopelessness, discouragement, negativity, whatever...  sharing your blessings with someone you love might help you.  
come to think of it, i guess it could even be someone you don't love!
(maybe that would help mend the relationship? haha)


gratitude:  it's a beautiful thing.
